Fly Flynn! is a mobile shadow puppet theatre production commissioned by ŻiguŻajg International Arts Festival for Children and Young People. The show, which premiered at the 2014 edition of the festival was performed at Mater Dei's Rainbow Ward, and was especially devised by Dù Theatre as a theatre-on-wheels piece that works in hospital environments in order to be able to reach children who are bed-bound. The piece may also be performed to a regular theatre-going audience in a variety of locations, including, but not limited to theatres.
Fly Flynn! tells the story of Flynn – a young, awkward flamingo. While flying against strong winds with his family, Flynn struggles to keep up with the rest of the flock, and losing his balance, he falls to the ground unnoticed by the others. Scared and lonely, finding himself in a spooky, foreign environment, he must endure the pain caused by an injury to his wing, and make his way back to his family by land. On the way he meets several new friends and discovers a world he would have otherwise flown over, demonstrating that a painful experience can lead to new discoveries. Flynn finds comfort and companionship in a diversity of creatures, and a courage and strength of character he did not know he possessed.
Fly Flynn! was also re-invented and performed at the ŻiguŻajg International Arts Festival for Children and Young People 2015 edition.
